Yellow jackets are picking up the pace. #🐝

The work bees were looking good this morning. They're hot, and some are low on stores. Removed their varroa treatments and removed extra space. I'll probably start feeding them again. Was concerned about #3, but checked and it has healthy brood.

Gave the honey bees Apiguard today, to treat for varroa mites. Hottest new thing.

When I say my honey bees are really active, this is what their front step looks like: https://files.pnut.io/elt6_KgflUHR.

The morning bees. A little warm, but no big deal for them. They're just doing so well.

Took a look at the #yardbees this morning and gave them a couple more empty frames to work on. They haven't started building what they have, though.

Early morning during the magic hour. Calm bees.

@33MHz Thanks for the explanation. I went back and opened links to your recent #🐝 posts in Safari so I could see your updates with the associated visuals. 😀

The kids were diligent, but it didn't keep the SHBs down. So a few weeks ago I largely took care of them by caulking the large cracks in the top cover. You can faintly see the yellow propolis the bees were trying to fill the crack with on their own.

This is one of my best pictures of my home honey bees, on clover in my backyard.

Extracted honey yesterday for the first time! Got ~4gal from one super. Tastes fantastic. Supposedly has great quality this year, ~16% moisture. Not sure what we're doing with it yet. (This is work honey, not home honey.)

Managed to remove the super full of honey from the hive without triggering robbing behavior, I think. It took ~30min. Very clean. Wiped them off onto their hive and put the frames in a new super. This afternoon I'll go to a friend's house to centrifuge.

Brief inspection this morning at home, and everything is hunky dory. They were building lots of comb outside the frames because of all the space. Put an end to it, and added a couple more new frames. They did start drawing on one frame. Happy bees.

The #🐝, on the other hand, have been cramping for space.

I took this watching the sunflowers this morning. The native bees are all over those plants. They love them! Look at that bee… Pollinating like a honey bee! Native bees are much better pollinators, but their numbers don't compare to #🐝.

Small hive beetles do not starve in these prisons as they are able to solicit food from their bee captors. They...use their antennae to rub the bees' mandibles and induce the bees to regurgitate. Small hive beetles then feed on the regurgitated food [entnemdept.ufl.edu] #🐝

The 'prison guard' bees keep the small hive beetles confined to the cracks and out of the brood combs where there is an ample supply of honey, pollen, and brood on which small hive beetles reproduce. [entnemdept.ufl.edu] #🐝
