@unixb0y
Is there any way to encrypt a Mac software RAID? (0)
The Mac doesn't let me do it with FileVault when trying in the "regular" way but there must be some other solution right? 😉
Maybe @blumenkraft @cirrus @jws ?
@der_Jeff
@unixb0y EncFS? https://www.maketecheasier.com/install-encfs-mac/ @jws @blumenkraft @cirrus
@unixb0y
@der_Jeff cool thanks, I'll try later 😊

@unixb0y CoreStorage doesn't natively support that? Hrm. I wanted to create one of those, too. @jws @blumenkraft @cirrus
@cgiffard
@unixb0y Did it block you from doing it in Disk Utility too? @jws @blumenkraft @cirrus
@unixb0y
@cgiffard I think not; last time I tried, I could not do it :/ I have 2 HDDs in RAID0 and 2 bigger ones also in RAID0 which build my Time Machine backup drive for both the Mac and the other RAID :D

I think that's where I tried, even used diskutil ..

@unixb0y Maybe APFS will be able to do this, with FS (instead of volume-level) encryption (don't take my word for it... I haven't checked.) @jws @blumenkraft @cirrus

@cgiffard
Oh yes, maybe! Will check disk utility later (not @ home right now)
@jws @blumenkraft @cirrus
@cgiffard
@unixb0y It didn't show up last time I checked — I think it probably needs some developer-tools hackery to work. @jws @blumenkraft @cirrus
@unixb0y
@cgiffard
Alright, I'll let you know when I know more 😉
@jws
@unixb0y Never bothered with their soft raid. If all else fails, the classic solution would be to move secret stuff into an encrypted sparse disk image. As a bonus, it lets you limit access to content while still logged in.

@jws
Hmm okay. How do I do that disk image thing?
@cirrus @blumenkraft
@cirrus
@unixb0y Im not too familiar with apple ways, i stick to ye olde unix way and use dd for disk images,this has got me out of jail om a few occasions https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/disk_cloning#Cloning_an_entire_hard_disk /@jws @blumenkraft
@unixb0y
@cirrus
Thanks for the Link :) Seriously, out of jail? 😂
@jws @blumenkraft
@cirrus
@unixb0y heh, well let's just say 'out of serious trouble' :3 /@jws @blumenkraft
@jws
@unixb0y Disk Utility used to have a GUI flow (haven't checked under Sierra), or use hdiutil IIRC. If not that, then diskutil.
// @blumenkraft @cirrus
@jws
@cirrus That doesn't seem to support sparse volumes or transparent encryption. The macOS "disk image" is a bit more than just a clone. (I think ISO files might be more than that, as well?)
// @blumenkraft @unixb0y
@unixb0y
@jws
I'll try 😉
